Responsible Beekeeping (201) Margaret River

7:50 am - 3:00 pm

$98 per head

The target audience of this course is beekeepers who have been beekeeping for 2 or more years.

The aim is to assist to prepare you for the challenges you will face in the early years of beekeeping.  This includes getting the most out of your hives, requeening and how to produce your own queen.  It is beneficial to have completed a beginner beekeeper course with WAAS, or another organisation.  The WAAS presenters are experienced beekeepers with years of experience they will freely share with you.

Topics covered during the course include...

  • Identifying poor performing hives and queens
  • Identifying and managing angry bees to improve their demeanour
  • Splitting Hives & Creating Nucs
  • Including a Practical Session in the Apiary showing:
    • Nucs with queen cells
    • How to find and replace a queen in an angry hive
    • Developing skills to mark queens

What you need to bring:

Boots and clean or new bee suits for the practical part of the course.

Biosecurity is very important - please make sure that you suit is freshly laundered prior to the course.

Light lunch and refreshments will be provided

You will receive course notes, additional useful information and a WAAS Certificate of Completion
